Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi have travelled to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly meeting. Speaking to reporters, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Iran had proposed a seven-day ceasefire plan to stop the conflict between Iran and the United States. He said a 14-point peace agreement had been signed between the two countries on June 17 and called on the US to implement its terms. Araghchi said that if the United States accepted Iran’s demands, Iran would reopen the Strait of Hormuz on the seventh day of the ceasefire. He added that after this, both sides could hold detailed talks on all major issues, including Iran’s nuclear programme. However, US President Donald Trump said that Iran had made a proposal and that he had rejected it. A report by The Wall Street Journal said that elections for the US House of Representatives and 35 Senate seats are scheduled for November, and it reported that there could be renewed tensions or a major conflict between the US and Iran after the elections. Meanwhile, Iranian military spokesperson Hossein Mohebi said that Iran would never surrender. He claimed that Iran had faced more than 100 attacks so far and had successfully defended against them. He also said that Iranian missiles have the capability to target US military bases.
