A 68-year-old Indian-origin businessman named Darshan Singh Sahsi was killed in Abbotsford, Canada, on Monday morning (local time). According to a news release by Abbotsford Police, patrol officers found Sahsi suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to the hospital but later succumbed to his wounds. The police stated that the investigation is still in its early stages. “Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, the man succumbed to his injuries. No arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and additional resources have been deployed to determine the full circumstances surrounding this incident,” said Sergeant Paul Walker. Police added that the shooting of Sahsi does not appear to be connected to the recent wave of extortion-related violence targeting South Asian business owners. Investigators believe the suspect acted alone and released surveillance footage showing a silver Toyota Corolla allegedly involved in the shooting. Meanwhile, Canada-based gangster Goldy Dhillon, associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, claimed responsibility for the murder on Wednesday. In a Facebook post, Dhillon alleged that the victim was involved in a major drug trade and had ignored the gang’s monetary demands. Authorities in India and Canada are now verifying the authenticity of the post and investigating possible links to the Bishnoi network operating overseas. Punjabi journalist Gurpreet Singh Sahota described Darshan Singh Sahsi as a “gentle and humble person,” noting that he was a successful businessman in Abbotsford who was known for his generosity and community service.
