In the northern states, heavy rainfall has been persistent for the past few days. As a result, the water level of the Yamuna River has risen due to the continuous downpour in the capital city of Delhi last night. Furthermore, floodwaters have entered homes in the Delhi-NCR region. Particularly along the Delhi-Gurugram border, increased water levels have caused traffic congestion in the area. Since the rain has been ongoing since yesterday, the water level of the Yamuna River exceeded the danger mark this morning. Consequently, officials are advising residents living along the banks of the Yamuna River to move to safer locations. Due to the rising water levels in several rivers, including the Yamuna, officials have begun to open the gates of the Hathnikund Barrage located in the Yamunanagar district. As a precautionary step, schools situated in specific regions that might be impacted have been given a holiday today. Due to significant rainfall, traffic congestion was reported yesterday along the Delhi-Jaipur highway for a distance of 7-8 kilometers. In Gurugram, residents found themselves stuck for more than three hours because of the severe downpour. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority has declared that traffic will be suspended on the old railway bridge starting at 5 PM today, as the Yamuna River continues to face flooding. In light of the flood threat, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has advised the public to remain calm. In this situation, as the water level of the Yamuna River rises, efforts to rescue farmers stranded in their fields are currently underway.A member of the rescue team stated that the situation has worsened due to the release of water from the Hathnikund dam. We have been rescuing people since last night. We have successfully brought people to safety. Since last night, we have rescued approximately 50 to 60 individuals. We are also rescuing livestock that are trapped. It has been reported that these boats are being operated on behalf of the Delhi government.
