India Develops First Indigenous Antibiotic ‘Nabithromycin’ Effective Against Respiratory Diseases

The Union Ministry of Biotechnology has developed a new antibiotic drug called Nabithromycin in collaboration with a private pharmaceutical company.Union Minister of State for Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh, proudly announced this achievement. He stated that the drug is effective against respiratory infections and will be particularly beneficial for cancer patients and those with diabetes.He added that this is the first compound in India to be fully conceptualized and medically validated, highlighting a remarkable pace of self-reliance in the pharmaceutical sector.The minister made these remarks while speaking at a conference on artificial intelligence in the pharmaceutical industry. He also highlighted recent advancements in the field of genetics during the event.
