Prime Minister Modi’s decision to skip the UN summit

Prime Minister Modi has declined to attend the UN General Assembly meeting. The 80th session of the UN General Assembly is set to commence in New York on the 9th. The high-level general debate for this session will take place from September 23 to September 29. US President Trump is slated to address the assembly on the 23rd. Initially, it was indicated that Prime Minister Modi would be present at the UN General Assembly meeting. However, it has now come to light that Prime Minister Modi will not travel to the US due to the ongoing conflict arising from the imposition of a 50% tariff on India. It is anticipated that Union External Affairs Minister Jaishankar will represent the Indian government in place of Prime Minister Modi. As it stands, Prime Minister Modi’s attendance at this meeting has not been verified. Furthermore, it has been disclosed that Prime Minister Modi has opted to boycott the meeting. In other words, the Prime Minister’s travel itinerary thus far does not encompass the UN. The general meeting of the council was not convened.
