The Nobel Prize in Medicine for 2025 has been awarded to three individuals. Each year, a special committee appointed by the Norwegian Parliament selects the laureates for the Nobel Prizes in the disciplines of chemistry, physics, physiology, medicine, literature, and peace. Recipients of these prestigious awards receive a medal, a certificate, and a monetary prize amounting to approximately 10.41 crore in Indian currency. The highly anticipated Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced on the 10th. The announcements regarding the 2025 Nobel Prize winners commence today. In this context, the Nobel Prize Selection Committee revealed the Nobel Prize in Medicine in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, today (06.10.2025). The Nobel Prize has been conferred upon Mary E. Frankow, Fred Ramstell, and Simone Sakakushi. This award recognizes their research on the regulation of the body’s immune system. Their investigations focused on how to prevent the immune system from erroneously attacking the body’s own cells. This research holds potential for advancements in cancer treatment and stem cell transplants. The T cell system, which is designed to defend the body against foreign pathogens, can sometimes malfunction. It may mistakenly target the body’s own proteins as if they were threats, resulting in conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis and type 1 diabetes. This year’s Nobel Prize honors research aimed at inhibiting the production of such T cells.
