Three judges have recently been appointed to the Supreme Court. Justice Sanjeev Khanna, who served as the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, retired on the 13th, and one of the senior judges, Abhay S. Oka, retired on the 24th. As a result, the total number of judges in the Supreme Court has decreased from 34 to 31. In this context, the Supreme Court collegium, led by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai, convened last Monday to recommend to the Union Government the appointment of two Chief Justices and one senior judge from three High Courts to the Supreme Court.Accordingly, the Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court, N.V. Ancharia, the Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court, Vijay Bishnoi, and the Senior Judge of the Mumbai High Court, A.S. Chandurkar, have been recommended to the Union Government for appointment as Supreme Court Justices. In this context, it has been reported by the Union Minister of Law, Arjun Ram Meghwal, that the President of the Republic, Droupadi Murmu, has granted approval for the appointment of these three judges as Supreme Court Justices. These three judges took their oaths of office as Supreme Court Justices today at 10:30 AM. They were sworn in by the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, B.R. Kawai. As a result, the number of Supreme Court justices has increased to 34. The Supreme Court has reached its total number of justices.
