The dress code for the 2025 Met Gala has been officially revealed, emphasizing menswear. On February 4, Vogue, in collaboration with the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, announced this year’s dress code titled “Tailored For You,” alongside the event’s host committee. The theme, which was disclosed in October, is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and it highlights the role of fashion in shaping Black identities, particularly focusing on the “Black dandy” aesthetic as discussed in Monica L. Miller’s 2009 publication, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. Miller’s research, which serves as a foundation for the forthcoming Costume Institute exhibit, delves into how Black men have utilized style to redefine identities and envision new political and social opportunities. While the exhibit pays tribute to menswear, the “Tailored For You” dress code aims to provide both direction and room for creative expression among attendees. The Met Gala, which has been chaired by Anna Wintour since 1995, is set to take place at The Metropolitan Museum of Art on May 5. LeBron James will act as an honorary co-chair, with Pharrell Williams, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and Lewis Hamilton serving as co-chairs, alongside Wintour, who will also return in her co-chair role.
