The 38th National Games commenced on January 28 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. This event saw the participation of 10,000 athletes from 38 teams, concluding yesterday. The Services team secured the top position with a total of 121 medals, comprising 68 gold, 26 silver, and 27 bronze. Maharashtra followed in second place with 198 medals, including 54 gold, 71 silver, and 73 bronze, while Haryana claimed third place with 153 medals, consisting of 48 gold, 47 silver, and 58 bronze. The Tamil Nadu team finished in sixth place with 92 medals, which included 27 gold, 30 silver, and 35 bronze. Host state Uttarakhand concluded the competition in seventh place, amassing 103 medals, with a tally of 24 gold, 35 silver, and 44 bronze.

India faced defeat in badminton at the Asian Mixed Team Championship, which is currently taking place in the city of Qingdao, China. In the semifinals, the Indian team went up against Japan, resulting in a loss with a score of 0-3. In the mixed doubles match, the pair of Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Crasto lost to Hiroki Midorikawa and Natsu Saito with set scores of 13-21, 21-17, and 13-21. In the women’s singles, Malavika Bansod was defeated by Miyazaki with set scores of 12-21 and 19-21. Subsequently, in the men’s singles, HS Prannoy lost to Kenta Nishimoto with set scores of 21-14, 15-21, and 21-12.
