Tamanpreet Kaur, 23, from the Samrala area of Ludhiana district in Punjab, went to Canada five years ago to pursue higher education with the help of a loan taken by her parents. She was living in the Silver Berry area of southeast Edmonton. On the 9th, she was found unconscious at her home with suspicious injuries. Emergency medical workers provided immediate treatment and took her to the hospital in critical condition. However, she died on the 12th despite intensive medical care. A post-mortem examination later confirmed that Tamanpreet Kaur had died after being strangled. The Edmonton medical examiner officially declared the death a homicide. Following an investigation, Canadian police arrested her 22-year-old live-in partner, Ritesh Kumar, who was living with her in the same house. He is an Indian citizen and has been charged with second-degree murder under Canadian law. Police have clarified that they do not believe any other person was involved in the incident. Meanwhile, Tamanpreet Kaur’s family members are taking steps to bring her body back to India.
