Following the successful establishment of its flagship stores in India, Apple is poised to expand its retail presence by opening additional outlets in key cities such as Bengaluru, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai. Furthermore, the company has announced that it is now producing the entire iPhone 16 series, which includes the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, domestically in India. This initiative signifies Apple’s steadfast dedication to enhancing its footprint in the Indian market, focusing on both retail expansion and local manufacturing capabilities. Deirdre O’Brien, Apple’s senior vice president of Retail, conveyed her excitement regarding the company’s forthcoming endeavors in India. She stated, “We are thrilled to build our teams as we plan to open more stores in India, because we are inspired by the creativity and passion of our customers across this country.” O’Brien further emphasized the eagerness to provide customers with greater opportunities to explore and purchase Apple’s exceptional products and services while engaging with the company’s highly knowledgeable team members. Her remarks highlight Apple’s confidence in the promising potential of the Indian market, which has experienced notable growth in recent years.

In April 2023, Apple expanded its retail presence in India by opening its first store in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex, followed by another in Saket, New Delhi, the next day. These stores aim to create an engaging environment for customers to explore Apple products and receive expert assistance. O’Brien noted, “Our stores are incredible places to experience the magic of Apple,” emphasizing the deepening connection with Indian customers. While future store openings have not been specified, they are expected in key locations that reflect the ambiance of town squares. In addition to retail growth, Apple is enhancing local production with the launch of the iPhone 16 series, primarily for the domestic market, with some for export. Apple’s manufacturing efforts in India began in 2017 with the iPhone SE, and the company has since built a strong ecosystem by partnering with various manufacturers, mainly in southern India, significantly boosting its production capacity.

Currently, Apple not only produces devices within India but also directly employs approximately 3,000 individuals in the nation. Furthermore, its extensive network of suppliers generates thousands of additional jobs, thereby bolstering India’s expanding technology and manufacturing industries. This commitment to local employment and production has allowed Apple to establish itself as a significant entity in the Indian electronics manufacturing sector. Apple’s long-term vision transcends mere retail and manufacturing expansion; the company is also dedicated to sustainability initiatives. As part of its comprehensive strategy to achieve carbon neutrality across its entire supply chain and product offerings by 2030, Apple has collaborated with CleanMax, a renewable energy provider, to improve clean energy infrastructure in India. This partnership aims to deliver green energy to Apple’s offices, its two existing retail locations, and various corporate operations throughout the country. By enhancing local manufacturing capabilities and pursuing environmental sustainability, Apple is not only increasing its footprint in India but also aligning itself with global objectives for responsible production.
