Near the Indian border in Arunachal Pradesh, across the Brahmaputra River, China has long been planning to construct a dam. Despite significant opposition arising against this project, the construction of the world’s largest dam has commenced as of yesterday. The inauguration ceremony took place in the city of Nyingchi yesterday, attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, who laid the foundation stone. It is reported that the size of this dam will surpass that of China’s other three major valley dams. This massive dam project, valued at approximately 14.46 lakh crore rupees in Indian currency, will feature five tiers of hydropower stations. It is anticipated that this will generate over 30,000 crore kilowatts of electricity annually. India has expressed its concerns regarding this new dam project in China, noting that it could affect the flow of the Brahmaputra River in both India and Bangladesh. Furthermore, there is a possibility of flooding in the northeastern states if China releases large amounts of water during emergencies.
