Researchers at China’s National University of Defense Technology conducted a successful test using magnetic levitation (maglev) technology. They tested a 1-ton train based on this technology. In just 2 seconds, the train reached a speed of 700 km per hour, creating a new world record. The test was carried out on a 400-meter (1,310 feet) long maglev track. After reaching the top speed of 700 km/h, the train was safely stopped. With this achievement, it became the fastest maglev train ever developed. This train does not touch the tracks. Instead, it floats above them using magnetic force. Its acceleration is extremely powerful, comparable to the force used to launch a rocket. With such high speed, these trains could connect distant cities in just a few minutes. The team of researchers who achieved this record has been working on this project for the past 10 years.
