The Department of Posts has declared the suspension of all types of mail to the United States, which includes letters, documents, and gifts valued at up to $100. On August 22, the Department announced that it would halt the booking and transmission of postal services to the U.S. starting August 25, with the exception of documents, letters, and gifts valued at up to $100. “Due to the inability of carriers to transport mail bound for the U.S. and the lack of defined regulatory mechanisms, the competent authority has made the decision to fully suspend all categories of mail to the USA, including letters, documents, and gifts valued at up to $100,” it stated on Friday, August 29, 2025.

The United States has revoked the De Minimis Exemption effective August 29 for goods from all nations. Ajay Sahai, the Director General of the Federation of Indian Export Organisations, noted that apparel, small carpets, gems and jewelry, wellness products, handicrafts, electronics, and footwear are among the primary products exported from India via e-commerce platforms or shipped directly to consumers. “I anticipate a disruption lasting approximately one month due to the repeal of the De Minimis Exemption,” he remarked. Currently, e-commerce companies are assessing their costs and examining the extent of additional expenses that U.S. consumers may be able to absorb, he added.
