The IIT (BHU) Foundation has achieved a significant philanthropic milestone by exceeding $10 million in total donations—largely due to a transformative contribution of $1.6 million from alumnus Dev Goswami and his wife, Dr. Vardhana Goswami. A 1974 graduate in Mechanical Engineering, Dev Goswami currently serves as the Executive Chairman of IPS LLC, a company under Berkshire Hathaway. His remarkable donation represents the largest single contribution towards the foundation’s goal of establishing next-generation academic infrastructure on campus. The funds will facilitate the development of a new Lecture Hall Complex at IIT Varanasi—a facility designed to revolutionize learning for undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral students. This complex will serve as a center for academic innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration, featuring three floors of modern classrooms and cooperative learning spaces that can accommodate up to 1,850 students.

The building will be equipped with cutting-edge amenities, such as smart boards, high-speed Wi-Fi, acoustic optimization, ergonomic seating, and group study areas—all constructed with a focus on inclusivity and accessibility. Goswami, a trailblazer in the pharmaceutical and life sciences sectors, has consistently acknowledged the pivotal role of his education in shaping his career. His recent philanthropic gesture underscores the expanding influence of the institute’s global alumni network and its dedication to nurturing the next generation of technology and business leaders. “My vision for this complex is to create a dynamic environment that encourages learning, interaction, networking, and collaboration,” Goswami stated, “ultimately resulting in the cultivation of highly skilled technology and business leaders capable of making a significant impact in the world.”
