EduRight Foundation partners with AI Singapore to enhance Tamil language capabilities in AI.

EduRight Foundation, a US-based non-profit, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AI Singapore (AISG) to jointly develop and strengthen the Tamil language and cultural capabilities of AISG’s Southeast Asian language model (LLM). The agreement, formalized on March 5, 2025, follows an in-person meeting between EduRight Foundation President, Keerthi Jeyaraj, and AISG representatives in February 2025.The MoU outlines a collaborative effort focused on: (a) facilitating the collection of open-source Tamil data from government agencies, academic institutions, and private sector companies, and (b) training an enhanced version of the SEA-LION model using this data, which will be released under a permissive open-source license. This initiative aims to significantly improve access to and usability of AI technologies for Tamil speakers.EduRight Foundation President, Keerthi Jeyaraj, stated that this collaboration represents a significant step towards democratizing AI for South East Asian languages with their dialects and culture. We will be focusing on fine tuning the model in Tamil .EduRight Foundation and AISG are now calling for Tamil students and scholars to participate in this groundbreaking project.
