India’s Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Kwatra, announced on Thursday the establishment of eight new Indian Consular Application Centres throughout the United States, with the objective of enhancing access to consular services for the Indian diaspora. In a post shared on X, the Embassy of India in Washington, DC, released a video message from Ambassador Vinay Kwatra: “We are announcing a significant expansion of our Consular Services in the USA starting August 01, 2025. Here is a message from Ambassador Vinay Kwatra regarding this expansion and the beneficial changes it will bring to our service delivery.” Ambassador Kwatra stated that the new Indian Consular Application Centres will be situated in Boston, Columbus, Dallas, Detroit, Addison, Orlando, Raleigh, and San Jose.
Additionally, another Indian Consular Application Centre will soon be established in Los Angeles. The introduction of these new centres will greatly enhance our capacity to provide comprehensive consular services and improve our delivery capabilities. This will also facilitate faster and more accessible service delivery to our dynamic Indian diaspora. He further mentioned that beginning August 1, all Indian Consular Application Centres will also operate on Saturdays, significantly improving the availability and accessibility of services. Ambassador Kwatra also revealed the streamlining of various miscellaneous consular services, which will now be offered through the centres. However, certain key services will still be managed from the embassy premises. With the inauguration of two new consulates in Boston and Los Angeles, as previously announced by the Prime Minister of India a few months ago, we will not only fortify the relationship between our two nations but also enhance our people-to-people connections—especially in the regions of Boston and Los Angeles. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, approximately 5.4 million individuals of Indian origin reside in the United States, making them the third-largest Asian ethnic group in the nation. The Indian diaspora has played a key role in cementing closer ties between India and the United States.
