A 21-year-old Indian-origin truck driver, identified as Jashanpreet Singh from Yuba City, has been arrested in California after allegedly plowing his semi-truck into multiple vehicles, killing three people and injuring several others. According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal crash occurred around 1:10 p.m. when Singh’s speeding rig slammed into slow-moving traffic, triggering a chain reaction that involved eight vehicles — including four semi-trucks, two pickup trucks, and two passenger cars.Eyewitnesses described a massive explosion-like sound as several vehicles caught fire, sending debris flying across the freeway. Due to the involvement of multiple commercial trucks, authorities issued a hazardous materials alert at the scene.
Verified dashcam footage circulating on social media shows Singh’s truck approaching at high speed without braking or attempting to swerve before crashing into the vehicles ahead. Following the incident, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced a temporary pause on all commercial truck driver work visa issuances, citing safety and labor concerns. “The growing number of foreign drivers operating large trucks on U.S. roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers,” Rubio stated on social media. Singh faces charges of driving under the influence of drugs and gross vehicular manslaughter.
