India’s media and entertainment industry is steadily growing and is expected to expand by around 7% every year until 2027. According to an official statement released on February 16, the sector’s total value is projected to increase from ₹2,502 billion in 2024 to ₹3,067 billion in 2027. The industry currently generates nearly ₹3 lakh crore annually and supports more than 10 million jobs, both directly and indirectly. This shows that the sector is becoming an important part of India’s services economy and overall growth. A major driver of this growth is the technology-based creative segment known as AVGC-XR — Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality. These areas are expanding rapidly, with Indian professionals contributing to international films, streaming platforms, advertising, and immersive digital experiences. Gaming, in particular, has become very popular across cities and small towns, with millions of people playing daily on mobile devices. India is now one of the largest gaming markets in the world, supported by a strong user base, growing revenue, and expanding local studios. Overall, the creative sector is emerging as a key contributor to India’s economy, employment, and global influence.
