The mega auction for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is scheduled to occur on November 24 and 25, 2024, as franchises gear up to revamp their squads for the upcoming season. This two-day event, which takes place every three years, is expected to feature prominent players such as Rishabh Pant, Mitchell Starc, KL Rahul, and Jos Buttler entering the bidding arena. A total of 577 players will be available for selection, with the auction being hosted for the first time in Saudi Arabia at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, which accommodates 15,000 spectators. The proceedings will commence at 3:30 PM IST on both days.
Among the 577 players, 367 are Indian and 210 are international athletes. Initially, 574 players had registered, but the list was later expanded to include England’s Jofra Archer, USA’s Saurabh Netravalkar, and India’s Hardik Tamore. Each IPL team is required to finalize a roster of at least 18 players by the conclusion of the auction. While all franchises have a total budget of Rs 120 crore, they will enter the auction with reduced amounts following the retention phase. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) possess the largest budget at Rs 110.5 crore, whereas the Rajasthan Royals (RR) have the smallest at Rs 41 crore. The auction will also feature the Right to Match (RTM) rule, allowing previous franchises the opportunity to reclaim players at the auction price, with a new twist this year that permits the winning team to make a final counter-bid. The auction will be broadcast live on the Star Sports Network and streamed digitally via the JioCinema app and website.
