Navdeep Singh (Duncan) Sachdeva has been appointed to the Central Area Planning Commission by Mayor Karen Bass, following a unanimous approval from the Los Angeles City Council on January 22. The Central Area Planning Commission is instrumental in influencing the urban development of Los Angeles. As one of seven regional commissions, it is responsible for adjudicating appeals related to land use, which encompasses conditional use permits, variances, and zoning modifications. The commission often acts as the ultimate decision-making body, with its rulings significantly impacting housing strategies, economic growth, and community planning initiatives. Sachdeva brings extensive expertise to this role, having dedicated over ten years to real estate asset and portfolio management.

His professional journey is further enriched by his active participation in civic leadership, notably through his involvement with the Los Feliz Neighborhood Council and the Los Feliz Improvement Association. These experiences have provided him with valuable insights into community advocacy, stakeholder collaboration, and the complexities of urban planning. Upon his appointment, he expressed the weight of the responsibility associated with this position, emphasizing the importance of making land use decisions that are just, equitable, and beneficial to all stakeholders. He stated that his background in real estate and community involvement will guide his efforts to promote transparency, harmonize economic development with the preservation of neighborhood character, and ensure that the planning process addresses the needs of both current residents and future generations.
