On Tuesday, Pakistan reported that the death toll from rain-related incidents and floods has risen to 706, as the army has escalated its relief efforts in the regions most severely affected. In its most recent update, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) indicated that in the past 24 hours, at least 24 additional individuals have lost their lives, bringing the total number of fatalities to 706 since June 26. The count of injured individuals has also risen to 965. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has been the most impacted area, with 427 deaths recorded thus far, followed by Punjab with 164, Sindh with 29, Balochistan with 22, Pakistan-occupied Kashmir with 56, and eight in the Islamabad region, according to the report.
The army has intensified its relief operations, successfully rescuing 6,903 individuals and offering medical assistance through nine camps located in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. Furthermore, it was noted that 25,000 individuals have been relocated to safer areas. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted thunderstorms and heavy rainfall across most regions of the country within the next 24 hours, cautioning about potential flooding in local streams and nullahs, as well as urban flooding in low-lying areas of Punjab, Islamabad, Peshawar, and Sindh.
