Communal violence has increased in some parts of Nepal, which shares a border with India. Due to the worsening security situation, the district administration in Parsa imposed a curfew in Birgunj city, which is close to Raxaul in Bihar. As a precautionary step, India has completely closed its border in the area and restricted all cross-border movement, allowing only emergency services. The unrest began after two Muslim youths, identified as Haider Ansari and Amanat Ansari from Kamala municipality in Dhanusha district, allegedly posted a video on social media that was seen as insulting to certain religious communities. The video quickly led to communal tension in Dhanusha and Parsa districts. Local residents handed the two youths over to the police, but soon after, a mosque in the Sakuwa Maran area of Kamala was damaged, further worsening the situation. Protests then turned violent, with Hindu groups accusing the video of insulting their deities. Protesters threw stones at police and damaged a local police station. Police used tear gas to control the crowd, and at least seven police officers were injured in the clashes. As tensions continue to rise, many Indian migrant workers in Nepal have started returning to their home towns in India for safety.
