For the third consecutive day, the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly experienced significant turmoil regarding a controversial resolution that called for the immediate restoration of Articles 370 and 35A of the Constitution in their original form. The session was characterized by intense shouting, physical altercations, and a walkout, reflecting the ongoing conflict between the opposition BJP and regional parties concerning Article 370. Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh, the brother of Baramulla MP Engineer Rashid and an MLA from the Awami Ittehad Party, was forcibly removed from the House by marshals. Following a series of chaotic events, the BJP members also staged a walkout after several of their colleagues were escorted out amid the disorder. The discord was ignited by the introduction of a new resolution from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC), which sought to reinstate Articles 370 and 35A. The BJP opposed this resolution, deeming it “illegal” and calling for its withdrawal. However, Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather dismissed this request, asserting that the authority to rescind any passed resolution rested with the House itself, not with the Speaker.
