The death toll from flash floods that hit Texas in the US has sadly risen to over 100 people, with an unknown number still missing, officials have confirmed.Search and rescue teams are tirelessly working through mud-covered riverbanks, although the hope of finding more survivors is diminishing, four days after the disaster. The area is still at risk of more rain and thunderstorms. camp Mystic, a Christian all-girls’ summer camp, has reported that at least 27 girls and staff members are among the deceased. Ten girls and one camp counselor are still missing.Meanwhile, the White House has denied claims that budget cuts at the National Weather Service (NWS) could have affected the disaster response. In Kerr County alone, at least 84 victims – including 56 adults and 28 children – lost their lives when the Guadalupe River overflowed due to heavy rain before dawn on July 4. The county sheriff’s office has indicated that around 22 adults and 10 children have yet to be identified.In its most recent forecast, the NWS has warned of more slow-moving thunderstorms, which could result in further flash flooding in the region.
