Jack Dorsey, the co-founder of Twitter and current CEO of Block, has introduced a new messaging application named Bitchat. It is generating significant attention in the technology sector for all the right reasons. Bitchat is an offline messaging app that operates without an internet connection, utilizing Bluetooth technology. Bitchat is a peer-to-peer messaging application that enables users to send messages offline through Bluetooth. This functionality allows for communication without the need for mobile data or Wi-Fi. The app serves as a practical solution in situations where the connection is weak or entirely absent. Bitchat facilitates direct connections between devices over short distances, eliminating the need for central servers, phone numbers, or internet and email addresses. As users move about with their devices, the app employs Bluetooth to link nearby devices and create a group. If a recipient is located at a greater distance, the message is relayed from one phone to another until it reaches its destination. This method is referred to as mesh networking.Messages are transmitted to adjacent devices using end-to-end encryption, ensuring that only the sender and the intended recipient can access the content of the message.
Features of Bitchat:
1. Offline communication: Functions without internet connectivity by utilizing Bluetooth mesh networking.
2. End-to-end encryption: Every message is securely encrypted.
3. Extended range: Messages can be relayed through peers, extending the reach up to 300 meters or 984 feet.
4. Mention: Utilize @nickname to alert specific users.
5. Rooms: Establish rooms for discussions based on specific topics.
6. Password rooms: Protect rooms with passwords and AES encryption.
7. Privacy: There is no tracking, no servers, accounts, or data collection.
Bitchat is presently in the beta testing stage, accessible to a limited number of iOS users via Apple’s TestFlight platform, where it swiftly reached the 10,000-user cap. The official release date has yet to be disclosed. The developers are also in the process of creating the Android version.
