The Indian women’s cricket team, who won the World Cup, met President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur gave the President a team jersey signed by all the players and also showed her the World Cup trophy. India won their first-ever women’s cricket World Cup by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final held in Navi Mumbai on Sunday — a proud and historic moment for Indian cricket. President Murmu praised the team for their great achievement and said they are an inspiration to young people. Earlier, on Wednesday, the team met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During the meeting, Harmanpreet Kaur recalled their 2017 visit when they were runners-up and said it felt special to return now as champions. PM Modi congratulated them and encouraged the players to promote the “Fit India” movement and inspire young girls to stay fit and disciplined.
