India and Canada are holding talks on a Free Trade Agreement and new investment opportunities between the two countries. As part of these discussions, India’s Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal has travelled to Canada for a three-day official visit. More than 100 representatives from Indian companies have also joined the trip. During the visit, Piyush Goyal met Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney to discuss trade and bilateral relations. Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Mark Carney said that Canada is actively working towards a Free Trade Agreement with India. He described the agreement as a major opportunity for Canadian workers and businesses. Carney added that both countries are moving quickly in the negotiations and are reviewing the progress made so far.
The discussions also focused on strengthening cooperation in important sectors such as energy, agriculture, technology, food processing, and education. Piyush Goyal also shared details about the meeting and said he conveyed the greetings of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Canadian Prime Minister. He said the talks were positive and focused on giving new momentum to India-Canada relations. According to Goyal, both sides held detailed discussions on improving long-term cooperation and advancing the ongoing Free Trade Agreement talks. The visit is being seen as an important step towards improving economic and trade ties between India and Canada.
