Air India has declared that, effective April 1, all staff members, including senior executives, will be required to travel in economy class to prioritize the needs of paying customers, as the airline aims to enhance its image following recent criticisms regarding flight delays. Employees may only be upgraded to premium economy or business class if there are unsold seats available 50 minutes prior to departure. The airline emphasized its commitment to ensuring that premium seating, which is currently in high demand, is accessible to customers first, thereby fostering a culture of customer focus within the reformed Air India. According to government statistics, India is among the fastest-growing aviation markets globally, with domestic air travel experiencing an annual increase of 10-12% over the last decade. Once a state-owned entity, Air India was purchased by the Tata Group in 2022 and subsequently merged with Vistara, a collaboration between Tata and Singapore Airlines. The airline has committed substantial investments towards its revitalization, which includes a rebranding initiative and enhancements to its fleet interiors. Air India is contemplating a multi-billion-dollar acquisition of numerous widebody jets from both Boeing and Airbus.
