During a gathering of European leaders on Friday, Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama showcased his charismatic style despite the heavy rain, greeting Italy’s Giorgia Meloni with a playful kneel and embracing France’s Emmanuel Macron in a friendly hug. Recently re-elected for a fourth term, Rama expressed his enthusiasm for hosting his counterparts from the European Union and beyond, particularly as he aims to secure Albania’s EU membership by 2030. Standing at an impressive height of two meters, he engaged warmly with over 40 leaders present at the European Political Community meeting, even playfully kneeling for Meloni and ensuring that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was escorted to the venue. As he welcomed Macron, he humorously referred to him as ‘the Sun King’ just as the rain subsided, and he lightheartedly suggested to the British attendees that they might have influenced the weather change.
