On May 14, Mukesh Ambani, the Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, had a meeting with President Donald Trump and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Emir of Qatar, during his visit to Doha. A video captured Ambani shaking hands with President Trump and engaging in a brief dialogue at a state dinner held in honor of Trump at the Lusail Palace, where Ambani was a guest. Although this prominent meeting led to speculation regarding potential business or investment discussions, Reuters indicated that Ambani did not engage in any formal business negotiations during his visit. The Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), which is Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, has invested in various Reliance ventures over the years, thereby enhancing the economic relationship between the Gulf nation and Ambani’s conglomerate. Additionally, Ambani has established strategic alliances with significant U.S. technology firms, including Google and Meta, which have invested in Reliance Jio in recent years. However, further information regarding Ambani’s objectives during his time in Qatar remains unclear.
