In the wake of India’s Operation Sindoor, which followed the Pahalgam terror attack, a significant boycott against Turkey and Azerbaijan has emerged due to their backing of Pakistan. This situation has led to the cancellation of over 15,000 travel bookings, with travel agencies and airlines offering complete refunds to affected customers. Dr. Ajay Singh from the Tourist Guide Federation of India highlighted the sense of national solidarity during Operation Sindoor, which has fueled widespread discontent towards Turkey and Azerbaijan, resulting in a two-thirds reduction in outbound travel to these countries. MakeMyTrip has reported a 60% decline in new bookings alongside a staggering 250% rise in cancellations, while Indian Airlines is also issuing full refunds. The tensions have been exacerbated by Pakistan’s attempts at drone infiltrations, allegedly utilizing drones of Turkish origin. Following the Pahalgam attack and India’s counter-terrorism response, Turkey and Azerbaijan have openly supported Pakistan, with Azerbaijan aligning with Pakistan’s perspectives and Turkey advocating for an international investigation while providing military assistance.
