Ali Velshi is set to become the new anchor of ‘The 11th Hour’ on MSNBC as part of a major programming change. He will take over the network’s final live show of the day, moving from his current weekend role to a weekday slot. The current host, Stephanie Ruhle, will shift to a new two-hour mid-morning program. These changes are expected to begin in June 2026. Velshi will also continue working as the network’s chief data reporter, a role in which he has played an important part during election coverage. Ali Velshi has an interesting personal background. He was born in Nairobi and raised in Toronto. His father, Murad Velshi, was a businessman and later became the first Indian-origin person elected to the Ontario Legislative Assembly. Velshi’s family history is also linked to Mahatma Gandhi, as his grandfather once met Gandhi during his time in South Africa. Velshi has shared these experiences in his memoir ‘Small Acts of Courage’. His family later moved from South Africa to Kenya and then settled in Canada, where they built a successful business.
