The Delhi Half Marathon 2025, organized by Procam International, is poised to host one of the most remarkable athletes in history as its international event ambassador. Nine-time Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis is scheduled to officially start the prestigious race from Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on October 12. Carl Lewis’ extraordinary career continues to motivate generations of athletes and enthusiasts alike. He participated in four Olympic Games from 1984 to 1996, securing an impressive nine gold medals, the highest number achieved by any track and field athlete in modern Olympic history. The 1984 Los Angeles Olympics marked the beginning of Lewis’s rise to international fame. In a performance that echoed Jesse Owens’ iconic achievement at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, Lewis won four gold medals in the same events—the 100-meter dash (9.99 seconds), 200-meter dash (19.8 seconds), long jump (8.54 meters), and 4×100-meter relay. This accomplishment made him only the third athlete in Olympic history to win four gold medals in a single Games, according to a press release from the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon. He subsequently triumphed in the 100m final with a world record time at Seoul 1988, leaped 8.67 meters in the long jump, and anchored a world record 4x100m relay (37.40 seconds) at Barcelona 1992. He concluded his career with an unprecedented fourth consecutive long jump gold at Atlanta in 1996. Lewis is one of only three Olympians to ever win the same individual event at four different Games. His records remain a testament to human ambition and athletic excellence.
Speaking about his affiliation, Lewis remarked, “Running serves as a universal language of possibility and advancement. Events such as the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon demonstrate that the enchantment of sport transcends mere records and medals; it has the power to transform lives, foster communities, and ignite aspirations. I am delighted to be part of this journey, aware that every runner, from novices to elite competitors, possesses the ability to shatter barriers, inspire, conquer, and pursue new horizons. Together, let us run not solely for speed, but for the spirit that propels us forward each day.” Priya Agarwal Hebbar, Non-Executive Director of Vedanta Ltd, stated, “It is a privilege to welcome the iconic Carl Lewis as our international event ambassador. His journey exemplifies boundless human potential, a spirit that reflects the ambition of the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon. As we unite to #RunForZeroHunger, each kilometre brings us closer to a more robust and healthier India.” Vivek Singh, Joint Managing Director of Procam International, added, “Carl inspires excellence not only through his remarkable accomplishments but also through his conviction in the ability of sport to unite and elevate. His participation is a source of pride and encouragement for every runner in India. The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon stands as a symbol of determination and progress, and with an icon like Carl at the forefront, we aspire for every participant to discover the courage to pursue their dreams and forge their own legacy.” The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon will be broadcast live on Sony Sports 1 and Sony Sports 1 HD on October 12, starting at 6:15 am.
