Indian-Origin Tech Professional from Telangana Dies in US Police Shooting. The Indian American community is grieving the unfortunate loss of Mohammed Nizamuddin, a 30-year-old software engineer from Mahabubnagar district, Telangana, who was fatally shot by police in Santa Clara, California, earlier this month. As reported by Santa Clara police, officers responded to a 911 call on September 3 regarding a dispute between roommates. Authorities indicated that the situation intensified, and during a confrontation, Nizamuddin reportedly brandished a knife. Despite receiving verbal instructions, officers, believing there was an immediate threat to another person, discharged their weapons. He was subsequently transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Nizamuddin’s family in India revealed that he frequently voiced experiences of racial discrimination and workplace harassment on social media. In one of his final posts, he discussed encountering racial animosity, wrongful dismissal, and corporate exploitation, while advocating for the need to confront injustices. His father, Mohammed Hasnud-din, has reached out to the Indian government for assistance in repatriating his son’s remains. In a prompt response, the Consulate General of India in San Francisco extended condolences and promised comprehensive consular support to the family, stating: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family in this difficult time.” Community leaders, including MBT spokesperson Amjed Ullah Khan, have urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to ensure that the family receives adequate support. This tragic event has united voices throughout the Indian American diaspora, highlighting the significance of community solidarity, justice, and ongoing efforts to protect the dignity of all immigrants.
