India and Uzbekistan have signed several important agreements to strengthen cooperation in areas such as trade, security, energy, investment and technology. One of the major agreements focuses on the long-term supply of uranium from Uzbekistan to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Uzbekistan for a two-day trip at the invitation of Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. After arriving in Tashkent, Prime Minister Modi was warmly welcomed by President Mirziyoyev. The two leaders also paid tribute at the Independence Memorial by laying wreaths. Modi later interacted with members of the Indian community living in Tashkent. In the evening, he attended a dinner hosted by President Mirziyoyev. The two countries held delegation-level talks during the visit. Both sides agreed to further strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, energy, digital connectivity and defence. They also discussed ways to expand cooperation in several other important areas.
Agreements were signed between India and Uzbekistan covering trade, defence, energy, culture, higher education, scientific research, Ayurveda, environmental protection, archaeology, tourism, mineral resources and geological research. Among these agreements, the uranium supply deal is particularly significant, as Uzbekistan has agreed to provide uranium to India on a long-term basis. The agreements are expected to further strengthen the close relationship between India and Uzbekistan and create new opportunities for cooperation in strategic and economic sectors.
