BJP Set to Form Government in West Bengal for the First Time, Mamata Party Faces Major Setback

For the first time in the history of West Bengal, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to form the government. Out of the total 294 seats, the BJP is leading in around 200 constituencies, which is well above the majority mark of 148. Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is expected to become the next Chief Minister. The elections in the state were held in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with a high voter turnout of 92.47%. However, due to irregularities reported in the Falta constituency, the Election Commission has announced a re-poll there on the 21st. As a result, vote counting is currently taking place in 293 constituencies. With the BJP crossing the majority mark comfotably, its victory in the state appears certain. The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) is expected to win around 80+ seats and will likely become the main opposition party. This election marks a major political shift, as the BJP is set to end the 15-year rule of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in West Bengal.
