Following Britain and France, Canadian government also announced that Canada also ready to recognize Palestine. The efforts made by countries around the world to bring an end to the conflict between Israel and Hamas have faced setbacks. In this context, Prime Minister Mark Garneau of Canada has dramatically declared that Canada will recognize the Palestinian state this coming September. In a post on social media regarding this matter, Mark Garneau stated that Canada has always firmly supported Israel as a sovereign nation in the Middle East. At the same time, a free and sovereign state of Palestine, which lives peacefully and securely alongside the Israeli government, has been indicated to be recognized by us in the upcoming month of September. Both the United States and Israel have expressed strong opposition to this decision made by Canada. In a statement released by the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding this matter, it has been stated that this shift in the Canadian government’s position is a concession to Hamas. Furthermore, it has been noted that this decision will have adverse effects on the ceasefire in Gaza and the actions related to the release of hostages.
