Passengers journeying from Canada to India will now encounter increased security screenings due to escalating tensions between New Delhi and Ottawa. On the evening of November 18, Canada’s Transport Minister, Anita Anand, revealed the introduction of these temporary protocols, emphasizing that they were enacted “out of an abundance of caution.”Anand stated that Transport Canada has put in place these additional security measures, indicating that travelers might experience delays during the screening process while these protocols are active. In response to the new regulations, Air Canada has advised passengers heading to India to arrive at the airport at least four hours prior to their flight, cautioning them about potential longer wait times at security checkpoints. The Canadian Air Transport Security Authority, which oversees passenger and baggage screening at Canadian airports, is responsible for enforcing these enhanced security measures. This decision follows a month after the Royal Canadian Mounted Police disclosed evidence suggesting connections between “agents” purportedly representing the Indian government and organized crime activities in Canada.
