The Ekal Vidyalaya Foundation of USA organized a gala at the Four Seasons Hotel in Palo Alto, successfully raising $3.5 million to aid the development of remote and rural villages in India. The event, which carried the theme “Building a Self-Reliant Rural and Tribal India,” showcased prominent speakers such as H.R. McMaster, the 25th U.S. National Security Advisor; Dr. Arun Majumdar, Dean of Stanford University’s Doerr School of Sustainability; and Bollywood actor and philanthropist Vivek Oberoi.On November 9, the Bay Area chapter event, spearheaded by Ekal board member Mahesh Navani, brought attention to the difficulties encountered by rural and tribal communities in India. Subra Dravida, President of Ekal USA, highlighted that over 100 million individuals in tribal regions have limited access to essential resources, with 88,000 villages suffering from inadequate healthcare, extreme poverty, and a significant digital divide. He reiterated Ekal’s mission to empower local leaders by providing literacy, healthcare, and economic opportunities through more than 80,000 one-teacher schools and Integrated Village Development (IVD) initiatives.
The keynote speakers acknowledged the significant influence of Ekal. Majumdar lauded the organization for its dedication to future generations, while McMaster underscored the importance of the India-U.S. partnership. Oberoi characterized his support for Ekal as a “karmic investment,” encouraging others to contribute as well.The event saw generous contributions from donors including Radhi and Girish Navani, Dr. Kavita Navani, and Dr. Rajesh Dharampuriya, among others. Young entrepreneur Aakash Prasad increased his donation, while Bay Area philanthropists Ken Bahl and Kamlesh Shah doubled their pledges. Attendees were also treated to narratives showcasing Ekal’s impact, gourmet cuisine prepared by chef Gaurav Anand, and performances by rapper Arun Saigal and beatboxer Vinith Johnson.
