US Ambassador to India Eric Garcetti expressed his concerns on Saturday regarding the ongoing violence against Hindus and other minority groups in Bangladesh, underscoring the importance of protecting religious minorities as a fundamental aspect of democracy and global harmony. He articulated that the protection of religious minorities is essential regardless of their country of residence, asserting that this principle is vital not only for democracy but also for fostering peace worldwide.
During his informal visit to St. Xavier’s College in Maharo, Dumka, which was part of a cultural exchange with the High Commissioner of Malta, Reuben Gauci, Garcetti emphasized the United States’ dedication to ensuring that minority voices in South Asia are heard and included. He noted the collaborative efforts in Bangladesh and India to uphold these voices, expressing hope for the continuation of such initiatives. Garcetti also highlighted the cultural richness of the Jharkhand region, referring to it as the “heartland of India” and commending its profound traditions. He drew comparisons between Indian and American tribal cultures, emphasizing their mutual respect for nature and the importance of preserving these connections in today’s world.
