Actor Priyanka Chopra Jonas revealed that she had frozen her eggs in her 30s as her mother Madhu Chopra, who is a gynecologist, advised her. “I felt such freedom. I did it in my early thirties. I could continue on an ambitious warpath to what I wanted to achieve, and I wanted to get to a certain place in my career,” Priyanka, who welcomed her first child Malti Marie via surrogacy in 2022, told American podcast host Dax Shepard on his show Armchair Expert Podcast.
Priyanka also shared that one reason she did not want to date Nick Jonas at the beginning was that she was unsure whether he would want to have kids as he was 25 years old at the time. “And, I also had not met the person I wanted to have children with. So, that’s anxiety-inducing, 35 and… and with my mom who is an ob-gyn going, ‘Ooh 36! Just do it’,” the actor said on the podcast. “I always knew I wanted kids and that was one of the reasons I didn’t want to date Nick [initially] because I was like I don’t know if he would want kids, at 25 at that time,” she added.
She also advised young women who wished to have children to have their eggs frozen. “I tell everyone to do that (freeze their eggs). Do it as many times as you need… I tell all my younger friends, the biological clock is real. It gets so much harder to get pregnant after 35 and to carry to term and all of that. Especially with women that have been working all our lives. But science is at such an amazing place right now where if you can afford it, I tell people… This is the best gift you’ll give yourself because you’re taking the power of your biological clock and you can work for however long you want, your eggs will still be the same age as when you froze them. [This is] for people who want kids,” she said.
