The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), a public sector company, has successfully emerged victorious in the auction for the development of a rocket designed to launch small satellites, thereby sidelining private firms. This achievement is regarded as a significant success for the government’s efforts to expand the contributions of companies in the rapidly growing space sector. HAL has secured the opportunity to acquire the SSLV technology, while Alpha Design Technologies, a division of Adani Defense Systems and Technologies, and Bharat Dynamics were also qualified for the final auction. Through the successful development of a rocket capable of launching payloads weighing 500 kilograms into orbit around the Earth, HAL can independently create, maintain, and commercialize SSLV launches. HAL has secured this contract for 59 million dollars, equivalent to 511 crore rupees.The third unit will provide HAL with the autonomy to optimize the design and select its own distributors. This progress has been noted as a remarkable milestone by HAL’s Finance Director, P. Sreenivasan. In the wake of this announcement, HAL’s shares experienced a rise of 1.50 percent, trading at ₹4,971.Accordingly, Isro will guide HAL for a period of two years. During this time, HAL will manufacture two SSLV units utilizing ISRO’s design and suppliers.
