Inaugural USC India Conference, where collaboration and innovation take center stage

The first USC India Conference, titled “India Rising,” is scheduled to be held at the University of Southern California on January 25. This event is designed to examine the increasing impact of India across a variety of global sectors. With a distinguished lineup of speakers from relevant industries and a thoughtfully organized agenda, the conference will focus on the valuable insights that can be exchanged between nations as India enhances its international presence. Organized by student leaders from USC’s MBA program and the wider Association of Indian Students at the university, the conference promises to feature a remarkable array of speakers, including officials from the Indian government, venture capitalists, industry experts, and legal practitioners. Among the notable speakers is Dr. K. Srikar Reddy, the Consul General from San Francisco. A key feature of the event will be a fireside chat with Kanwal Rekhi, a prominent figure in Silicon Valley, who will address “The Indian Diaspora” and the development of South Asians within the entrepreneurial landscape.The conference will also cover a range of topics, such as the representation of Indians in Hollywood and the rising interest in cricket in the United States. These discussions are intended to expand the event’s focus and engage participants in significant cultural and societal issues.

Tejaswa Gavankar, a co-founder and recent MBA graduate from USC, remarked that the Indian diaspora in the United States is among the most accomplished communities worldwide, boasting incomes that are double the national average and remarkable educational success, with 80% holding a bachelor’s degree. He emphasized the immense potential of this group and expressed the aim of creating a platform that motivates individuals to aspire for greater achievements while building a supportive network to assist them in realizing their goals.The conference will highlight the significance of maintaining a connection to India’s rapidly expanding economy. Raghav Mahajan, co-founder and current MBA student at USC, remarked that despite the successes many have achieved in the United States, India’s economy is growing at a rate three times that of the US. He emphasized that whether one is considering a new business venture, a career transition, or an investment opportunity, it is not merely wise but essential to remain attentive to developments in India.As this marks the first edition of the USC India Conference, the organizing committee has announced that it has successfully secured funding to create a scholarship. This scholarship aims to recognize exceptional individuals who are dedicated to promoting the South Asian community while also excelling in their academic and professional pursuits.
