Indian Railways CCTV Cameras: In an effort to enhance safety and security, Indian Railways has made the decision to install CCTV cameras in both coaches and locomotives. Indian Railways CCTV Camera Installation To bolster safety and security, Indian Railways has opted to implement the installation of CCTV cameras in coaches and locomotives. This initiative also seeks to mitigate miscreant activities, vandalism, and theft, serve as a deterrent against crime, and assist in investigations. As of now, the national transporter has successfully installed CCTV cameras in 11,535 coaches, as stated by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in a written response to the Lok Sabha on August 6, 2025. He was addressing inquiries from MPs Chavan Ravindra Vasantrao and Manish Jaiswal, who requested zone-wise information regarding the coaches fitted with CCTV cameras. The MPs also inquired about the plans to equip all railway coaches with CCTV cameras to further improve passenger safety. The Western Railway zone has the highest number of coaches equipped with CCTV cameras (1,679), followed by Central Railway (1,320), Southern Railway (1,149), Eastern Railway (1,131), and Northern Railway (1,125).
