A 32-year-old man, who discharged a firearm that resulted in the death of Indian medical student Harsimrat Randhawa in Canada, has been apprehended, according to local media reports. The suspect, Jerdaine Foster, was taken into custody in Niagara Falls, Ontario, on August 5 and faces charges of first-degree murder along with three counts of attempted murder. On August 7, Det. Sgt. Daryl Reid informed the media that the incident, which occurred in the vicinity of Upper James Street and South Bend Road, involved at least seven individuals, four vehicles, and several firearms. It was reported that bullets also penetrated the window of a nearby residence, although no occupants were harmed. Reid stated that he could not disclose further details as the matter is currently in the judicial system. The suspect has connections to the Halton, Hamilton, and Niagara areas and resided in short-term rental accommodations, according to the official.

The official also mentioned that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend all individuals implicated in the fatality. Authorities believe that the violent confrontation began several minutes prior to the shooting at the bus stop. Harsimrat Randhawa, 21, a student at Mohawk College in Hamilton, was waiting for a bus at Upper James Street and South Bend Road when she was struck by a stray bullet on April 17. She later succumbed to her injuries in the hospital. Hamilton Police reported that upon arriving at the crime scene, they discovered Randhawa with a gunshot wound to the chest. According to local law enforcement, she was an innocent victim, tragically hit by a stray bullet during a shooting incident involving two vehicles.
