The Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund (JNMF) has announced the upcoming launch of The Nehru Archive, a digital platform aimed at preserving and facilitating access to a wide array of materials pertaining to the life and legacy of Jawaharlal Nehru. This archive will include Nehru’s speeches spanning from 1917 to 1964, writings by his contemporaries, resources from international archives, and a selection of lesser-known and unpublished works by Nehru himself. The unveiling of the archive is scheduled for November 14, 2025, which will coincide with the celebration of Nehru’s 136th birth anniversary. Among the significant collections featured in the archive are the 100 volumes of The Selected Works of Jawaharlal Nehru, a compilation of his correspondence with chief ministers from 1947 to 1964, and his notable published works, including Letters from a Father to His Daughter, Glimpses of World History, An Autobiography, The Unity of India, and The Discovery of India, as stated in the JNMF press release.The forthcoming archive will encompass a comprehensive collection of Nehru’s speeches spanning from 1917 to 1964, writings by his contemporaries, materials sourced from international archives, and a selection of lesser-known and unpublished works by Nehru himself. This initiative is designed to emulate the archival frameworks of the Wilson Centre Archives, as well as those dedicated to notable figures such as Winston Churchill, Nelson Mandela, and John F. Kennedy.
The announcement was made by the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund (JNMF), which is situated at the Teen Murti Complex, the historical residence of Jawaharlal Nehru. In addition to the archive, the complex is home to the Prime Minister’s Museum and Library, which features a specific section devoted to Nehru. Karan Singh, the vice chairman of the JNMF, expressed confidence that this archive will enhance accessibility to Nehru’s legacy for future generations, emphasizing the importance of understanding his pivotal role in shaping modern India and the global landscape. Established in 1964, the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund undertakes various initiatives, including the publication of The Selected Works of Jawaharlal Nehru, the organization of the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Lecture, and the administration of the Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fellowship. Furthermore, it oversees Anand Bhawan and the Jawahar Planetarium located in Prayagraj, and currently comprises 14 trustees.
