JJ Singh secures victory in the Democratic primary for Virginia’s House District special election

JJ Singh has emerged as the Democratic candidate for the special election in Virginia’s 26th House District, achieving a significant victory in a competitive primary. Singh received 745 votes from a total of 1,839 cast, surpassing four other contenders: Sam Nandi with 425 votes, Ibraheem Samirah with 323 votes, Loudoun County School Board Vice Chair Arben Istrefi with 280 votes, and Lakesha Gorham-McDurfee with 66 votes.In the upcoming special election scheduled for January 7, Singh will compete against Republican nominee Ram Venkatachalam.

This election was necessitated by the resignation of Delegate Kannan Srinivasan, who is pursuing a seat in the 32nd Senate District. Newly elected Congressman Suhas Subramanyam extended his congratulations to Singh, stating, “Congrats to JJ Singh for Delegate on winning today’s HD-26 primary! Thanks to all the candidates who ran. The work starts now to get him and Kannan Srinivasan across the finish line on January 7 and keep our majority in the General Assembly.” Singh, a seasoned public servant, brings extensive experience to the race, having served in the Peace Corps in Bolivia, worked in the Budget Office during the Obama Administration, and advised U.S. Senator Chris Coons on policy matters.Locally, he has been active on Loudoun County’s Economic Development Commission and has served as treasurer for the Loudoun County Democratic Committee. His campaign emphasizes critical issues such as enshrining abortion access in Virginia’s Constitution, lowering costs for residents, enacting gun safety measures, and fostering a sustainable economy, demonstrating his dedication to addressing urgent local and statewide challenges.
