An Indian national, Nukarapu Sai Teja, aged 22 and hailing from Telangana, tragically lost his life due to a shooting incident outside a store in Chicago on November 29. The event transpired around 6:00 p.m. local time and was initially characterized as an attempted robbery.As reported by the victim’s uncle, Talluri Srujan, two armed individuals entered the store where Sai Teja was located and demanded cash. Despite Teja’s compliance in handing over the money, he was shot shortly after exiting the store. The assailants reportedly fled the scene, prompting an ongoing investigation by law enforcement authorities.Teja had relocated to the United States on June 15 to pursue an MBA at Concordia University in Chicago, following the completion of his BBA in Hyderabad.

In addition to his academic pursuits, he was employed part-time at a petrol station to sustain himself. It has been reported that he was assisting a friend at the store when the shooting occurred.The Consulate General of India in Chicago expressed profound shock and grief regarding the incident. In a statement shared on social media, the consulate urged for prompt action against those responsible and assured the victim’s family of comprehensive support.Leaders from Telangana in India, along with members of the Telugu Association of North America (TANA), are actively collaborating to provide assistance to Teja’s family during this difficult time.
