On Thursday evening, members of the British Tamil business community gathered at the Houses of Parliament to observe the significant signing of a memorandum of understanding between the British Tamil Chamber of Commerce and its Malaysian counterpart, the Selangor Indian Chamber of Commerce. This agreement marks the beginning of a valuable partnership and camaraderie between the Tamil communities in the UK and Malaysia, aimed at promoting and enhancing business interactions between the two regions. Malaysia is home to over 2 million Tamils, many of whom have Indian Tamil ancestry, while the UK hosts approximately 300,000 Tamils, with many having connections to the northern and eastern parts of Sri Lanka, often referred to as Eelam. Present at the event were the UK’s first Tamil Member of Parliament, Uma Kumaran, along with RISE UK’s president, Professor Dr. Kanes Rajah, who delivered a keynote address, as well as Tamil entrepreneurs, academics, and representatives from Tamil business networks. Additionally, a delegation of 20 Malaysian Tamils is visiting London for the annual London Tamil Market, scheduled for Saturday, April 5th, and Sunday, April 6th, organized by the British Tamil Chamber of Commerce.
